My psychiatrist spelled (spelt?) my name three different ways in the same one-page letter once, and all three were wrong. Maybe it's me who's been spelling my name wrong my whole life.
English is a stupid language for spelling, but the biggest spelling sin is when you spell people's names wrong. It's taken to mean that you hate them rather than that you have dyslexia or some other illness such as lazyness.
Also, it's not so bad when you spell short words wrong, like "spellig." As long as the context makes it clear what you said, everyone forgives you. But when you spell a big or difficult word wrong, like "Decartes" for "Descartes" everyone jumps on you and 'educates' you on your sinfullness.
Wow, it's a small world! I was commenting on Gloria's blog when I heard her voice in the library and temporarily left the computer to say hello. It must have been during that small time when you commented, Jennifah.
People misspell my surname all the time. Even after I spell it out for them, using the phonetic alphabetic. I've seen five or six variations of it. I kid you not.
Oh, BTW. For any bloggers who don't know me from a bar of soap, I will qualify my last post by saying that my surname is not a lengthy one - it only has two letters in it. Easy to misspell. Not.

"She comes around here
Just about night shift
And she comes to our ward
And she makes us feel alright
And her name is G
L
O
R
I-i-i
G-L-O-R-I-A
Gloria!"
